Further Ed

Well for those of you that are reading this because I am some mad brit wandering around the world breaking things, rather than actually knowing me, I am a bit of an education junkie.

I sort of decided when I went into full time education to do my MBA, that it was kind of fun. And no that was not just for the cheap student union beer as one of my friends states. As all of them are business related (no catapillar counting course in Antigua) they are tax deductible and give me something to do when I am stuck in the hotel on projects where there are no other away from home consultants to bitch about the client with :)

Obviously any course that requires I physically rather than virtually attend is a nono, with the exception of my CPA which I did in a one week immersion in between roles. Great for passing exams, but terrible for actually remembering anything long term!

After being quite lucky and getting home most nights for a while, I am now back on the road and the bug has bitten again.

Now I like being a mine of useless information and the different hats (accounting, business & technology) gives me some great insites to clients issues and methods to reslove them. It may not get the company clients (as I don't use most of them professionally, it make me look too "ivory tower"), but it generally does make the client come back again.

This is a personal itch that I have to scratch and previously only had one instance of entertainment from it. This was in a project steering comitte where I was being paid to shift the lines of business into new metods of working by the CFO that I had worked with at a previous company. One head of business cut me off in the middle of a presentation saying it was irrelevant and what would a techie know about it! Golden rule number one, if you are going to slap someone publically, make sure you have a bigger stick. So realing off ALL of my qualifications and the relevant University (I do love the top school researchers and staff to discuss issues with so they are worth the extra money) it was quite fun to watch them wilt and refuse to answer my question about their qualifications.

So I have just had another instance of fun. After applying for another ourse, I had the dean of admissions no less, phone me up to ask me why I wanted to do the course. Now for anyone that has had an interview with the dean of admissions, this is generally not fun and I normally have "discussions" around how I am going to complete a course sucessfully without atending enough of the lectures. But this call was completely surreal as the dean was completely obsequios. I still do not understand why, but it was really nice for the shoe to be on the other foot for once.

Was ther a point to this, I do't know I can't remember. Oh well time to go and break something!

Tell me what day it is and I will tell you where I am

  1. Point? Who needs a point? A rant is sufficient unto the day.

Hey have you thought about a spelling course? I may be able to help you out for a very reduced fee :-)
